Vessel & Cloth Cutting Apr 2011-Aug 2011
In this project, I developed a program to simulate the phenomena of cutting a vessel and a piece of cloth. A mass-spring system is used to physically model the cloth and K-DOPs tree is used for collision detection.
Introduction
The design and implementation of two cutting skill training modules: the vessel cutting module and the cloth cutting module is discussed in this paper. The vessel cutting module should properly model squeezing of the model while the cloth cutting module should display realistic stretching applied on the model. In addition, the two modules should be able to accurately and interactively simulate arbitrary cutting into the models. A mass-spring method is used to physically model the vessel and cloth. Masses and springs are set according to different models to achieve an accurate modeling of the objects. To simulate the interaction between objects and surgical tools, a collision detection system is needed. In this paper, we use K-DOPS tree to build our collision detection system. Finally, we proposed a cutting algorithm that moves the vertexes according to the tool trajectory for the cloth cutting module. Our design of the training modules can effectively model the physical phenomena of vessel and cloth as well as cutting into them.
